Karen (Wren) Gore, MSW, LICSW

Karen (Wren) Gore LICSW (she/her/hers) brings more than twenty years of clinical experience to Strong Roots Counseling. Her undergraduate studies at Hampshire College culminated in a large-scale art installation focused on women’s mental health. Her social work degree (1999) is from Smith School for Social Work.

 

Karen has worked in Medical settings, oncology, end-of-life care, in addition to private practice. She completed the Smith Post Graduate Certificate in End-of-Life Care and the Complicated Grief Training at Columbia University School of Social Work. She is also certified in EMDR for trauma and has been doing this work since 2015. Karen uses her EMDR work with clients who have experienced past or recent trauma. Examples of recent traumas include, but are not limited to: difficult medical experiences, traumatic loss, motor vehicle or flying accident/incident, cultural experiences of oppression or hate crimes. She also helps people to decrease anxiety, increase self-esteem, decrease depression, and learn emotional regulation and mindfulness. She is committed to providing therapy to those who identify as LGBTQ+.

 

Finally, as a part of the Strong Root Counseling community Karen brings expertise in bereavement support and coping skills to those suffering from grief and loss. She finds assisting those in their healing a powerful experience. She brings warmth and compassion as well as dynamic engagement into the therapy session.
